Maggie's Place

Since 2003, members of the St. Andrew the Apostle faith community have had a working relationship with Maggie's Place in downtown Phoenix, and, since last year, a deeper involvement with the local house...The Elizabeth House in Tempe.

Maggie's Place is a house of hospitality for pregnant women that are alone or on the streets. The mission of Maggie's Place is two-fold. First, Maggie's Place provides for the immediate physical and emotional needs of our guests by providing things such as shelter, food, clothing, transportation and a supportive community. Second, Maggie's Place connects our guests to appropriate agencies and resources including prenatal care, health insurance, low-cost housing, education programs, etc.

St. Andrew's volunteers interact with the staff and residents at Maggie's Place and Elizabeth House, providing food and a variety of supplies for the mothers and their infants.  Parishoners have hosted the mothers with surprise baby showers and have provided numerous gifts for the babies.  They also do volunteer mainatenance and upkeep ministry at the home.  Others have helped the mothers run yard sales and other fun projects.  Many St. Andrew's volunteers worked at the transformation of the Tempe building into the Elizabeth House.  And this ministry and the S.A.M.S. group both furnished rooms at the new facility.

Interaction is ongoing.  If you are interested in helping with this outreach ministry contact Linda Marovich or Dave Runyan.
