Marriage Preparation: FOCCUS

Facilitating Open Couple Communication, Understanding and Study

What is Foccus?

Foccus is a self-diagnostic inventory designed to help couples learn more about themselves and their unique relationship. It is not a test.

Why must we take Foccus?

The Diocese of Phoenix requires that all couples engaged in marriage preparation take a self-evaluation instrument. Our parish uses Foccus.

When do we take Foccus?

Once you have registered for marriage preparation you may take the Foccus inventory. It is offered on the first Thursday of each month at 6:30pm in Room A, which is located in the RE classroom building.

How long does it take?

It takes approximately one hour to take Foccus.

Must we take it as a couple?

Yes, you must both be present to take Foccus.

Is there a cost?

There is no cost to take Foccus. However, there is a fee to review the Foccus with one of our counselors.

What is the review process?

Within two weeks of your taking of Foccus, a counselor will call you to set up an appointment to review the Foccus. The review is a very important and intimate process. It is a time that you and your future spouse share openly with each other on many of the important issues presented on the Foccus. You will have time to discuss, plan and begin to come to some agreements on many issues. It is a very fun and exciting time. This time is set aside just for the two of you. It is most beneficial to you to not bring others with you to this appointment.

The cost for each Foccus review session is $50. Since the review is involved, some couples need two full sessions to adequately complete the process. Each session is one hour long.
