The meeting was opened with prayer.
Team meetings -- were not held due to the lack of team members available. Barb shared the information that was gone over in the Adult Advisory meeting with the teens regarding the pairing with adults to each of the SALT teams.
: It was decided that Sports would be moved under the heading of “Outreach†to better maximize the resources of the team members available on both.
: Future meetings will allow for the first 45 minutes to be set aside for meeting as a “team†for planning and evaluating events. The last 45 min will be a full SALT meeting which will include team reports, PAC report, upcoming events etc. Advisory adults will be invited to attend these initial meetings to try and encourage, mentor and guide the youth as they plan.
Boot Camp Retreat -- This retreat is scheduled for Nov, 10-12 of 2006 in Flagstaff. Team members present stated whether or not they were planning on attending. So far there are 12 committed members with Barb checking with the other 7 that are not accounted for tonight. The suggestion was made about doing the retreat locally to see if the 4 who could not make the whole retreat could attend and this did not seem to play much of a factor in their being more available to attend the retreat.
Challenges in Youth Evangelization
Rock briefly went over the “5 Hungers†he then asked that the teens please read the information on The Hunger of Meaning and Purpose for discussion at our next meeting.
NET Night -- cancelled due to Called to Protect conflict
PAC Reps -- Cassandra Votruba and Casey Mahoney would both like to be our PAC teen reps. We will check and see if we can have 2 teens rather than 1 teen and 1 adult. They are aware of the next meeting date.
Black Shirts -- Should be worn on all 1st Sunday’s. It is important the parishioners see the involvement of SALT teens and all teens that are involved in ministries.
Halloween/ All Souls Fest -- Looking for teens to encourage other teens to volunteer. SALT reps will speak at RE sessions to small groups individually to invite teens to help out.
Fr. Joe -- Barb spoke of the importance of a teen presence as “greeters†so that when Fr. Joe has a new family he can connect teens. She also spoke of the importance of teens to returning his greeting when he speaks to them.
Mission Trip -- It was voted on at the last meeting that teens would like to go on a “next level†mission trip with Catholicheartworkcamp.com. These are week long trips to another state that are well organized and cater to Catholic teens. Holy Spirit’s teens went last year and are going again this summer because of their fantastic experience. This would replace the San Diego Surf Camp. After 3 years of observing the “fruits†of that endeavor with the leadership teens, it is Barb and Rock’s opinion that this other option may be more suited to what we are looking for in forming committed, caring, service oriented teen leaders. Teens that are involved in leadership and have shown a long standing commitment only will be included. There is a considerable cost difference involved and teens attending would be required to fundraise to bring down the registration fee and transportation fees. We are exploring additional options to the Golf Scramble.
A vote was made at this meeting selecting the dates of July 8-14th in Louisville, Kentucky as our first choice of camps for this summer. Deposits and registrations forms are due by 12/1/06.
