2007-2008 Registration Information

If you are currently enrolled in Elementary R.E., you are eligible to early enroll for the 2007/2008 catechetical year on April 24 or 25  during the final class session.

As you may know, the age for the celebration of Confirmation has shifted in our diocese, so all children in grades 3 (three) an up will be preparing for and celebrating in the spring of ’08.  Because of this we are requesting very comprehensive documentation for the children’s individual files.  If you child is a second grader or older, we must have a copy of the baptism certificate (even if they were baptized at St. Andrew).

For the ’07 – ’08 Catechetical year, we will have four sessions from which to choose.  This is a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED, basis.  When a class is filled, it is filled and registering families will be assigned to available classes.  The sessions will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 4:00 – 5:15 and 6:00 to 7:15pm.  These sessions are for grades kindergarten through five.

We are always recruiting catechetical ministers (TEACHERS) and if you are interested, let Paulette know.  We have training beginning in mid-May.

The fee structure is as last year, $70.00 for one, $100.00 for two and $150.00 for three or more.  (Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a separate fee.)

Junior High and High School Youth ministry will be a separate registration to take place in August.  Our youth ministry is a separate ministry.  Contact that department for further information.

Any changes will only be considered AFTER OCTOBER 1.  PLEASE do not request any class assignment changes prior to that date.  Any requests must be submitted on a request change form.  Be careful to register for the correct session when you first register.  Also, there will be no refunds after October 1, 2006.

Registration will open at large to the parish on May 7, and will continue through out the summer months, but please be apprised that some sessions do fill and some classes may close if you wait too long.  We will have a two week freeze on registration the week prior to the classes beginning and the first week of classes.  No registrations will be taken during that time.

Registration for SUMMER EXPERIENCE!!! begins on May 15.  The fee is $40.00 per child for five days of fun, games, prayer, music and refreshment.  We will board the Gospel Express for a week with Jesus.  We can use volunteers for that week as well as travelers on the Express.

Sacramental preparation is separate and distinct from the regular grade level sessions.  You must register for Reconciliation and Beyond if you have an eligible 2nd grader.  You must register for Confirmation/Eucharist and Beyond if you have an eligible 3rd. grader.  You must register for Confirmation if you have a 4th or 5th grader who is eligible.

Please see the page that describes in detail the various offerings.  Reconciliation and Confirmation/Eucharist preparation takes place on Sunday mornings with a schedule.  The fourth and fifth grades will have a four-week unit in their regular classes this year only while we ‘move into compliance with the new diocesan policy.

We will not have classes the week of April 3, 4 because it is Holy Week and we fully expect your family to participate in the services being held on Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.  This is a time for prayer, reflection, special family time and community worship.  PLEASE bring your children to these incredible community celebrations and enter into Holy Week as a family fully engaged in the experience of Journey with our Lord, Jesus, Risen Christ.

Children who have reached second grade or higher and are uncatechized (have not had previous R.E. classes), will be placed in the Children’s Catechumenate, otherwise identified as the CIC process.  Preparation for all Sacramental celebration will take place in this two year process.  This is in association with the 8:30am Sunday Mass.

Children who are coming to the parish requesting Sacramental preparation and celebration are required to have a year of religious education prior to the year of Sacramental preparation.  This is a diocesan requirement.

CIC candidates will not participate in the second or third grade Sacramental preparation sessions.

During the ’07-’08 catechetical year, children in grades 4 and 5 will have a four week Confirmation preparation in their regular R.E. classes.   In the future, Confirmation preparation for children in grades 4 and  5 will take place in the second semester of the second year CIC sessions.
